Strategy Planning and Development

Strategy Planning and Development and Execution:  
TW Strategic Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie worked closely with the Australian leadership team and global CEO of a Singapore based utilities investment firm to develop a targeted media and stakeholder engagement strategy during a series of contested AGM’s involving the Singaporean company and a local investment. This required research and analysis to inform development of a set of options for media and stakeholder engagement including distribution of information regarding the client’s objectives and AGM voting intentions. In addition, various options included likely responses by media and stakeholders and their impact on the client’s overall objectives. This project generated significant media attention at the time, requiring high pressure strategic and tactical counsel, development of strategy planning materials and options papers, as well as development of key messages, data points and other content for delivery to investors and the media.


Corporate Communications

Stakeholder Engagement: 
TW Strategic currently manages stakeholder engagement for an Australian Genetic Research Foundation with responsibility for developing and executing engagement with the community, potential research partners, potential low value high volume community donors as well as larger corporate and high net worth individual donors. 

Stakeholder Engagement:  
TW Strategic Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie worked closely with a major Victorian hospital to develop and help execute a strategy to manage its transition from its original location to a new government established facility in partnership with a complex network of stakeholders. Prior to this Duncan also developed a stakeholder engagement strategy to assist the organization in executing the recommendations of its brand refresh – helping to navigate a complex and active stakeholder network by understanding their particular needs and concerns and assisting the client to manage these relationships. 

Stakeholder Engagement: 
TW Strategic Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie worked with a high-profile national company to develop and execute a complex stakeholder engagement strategy to assist in securing approval for expansion of a major landfill site in metropolitan Melbourne. 

Corporate Positioning: 
TW Strategic recently worked with a new Melbourne based research and innovation organization to help establish its reputation among key innovation sector stakeholders in Australia. This work included developing a strategic approach to engagement with major stakeholders and advocating on the organisation’s behalf directly with those stakeholders. In addition, this project involved identifying and securing opportunities for high profile and broader engagement through appropriate conferences and industry events. A component of this support was developing media engagement opportunities and facilitating direct engagement with targeted journalists by the client.

Corporate Positioning: 
TW Strategic Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie oversaw production of the annual report of a property and property services company servicing the Victorian legal fraternity. This was the first professionally developed Annual Report and was designed to help position the company as a professional property services provider. In parallel the client was advised on a range of stakeholder and media engagement steps supporting restructure of the business and its board, as part of its professionalisation and re-positioning strategy.

Reputation, Issues and Crisis Management:
TWS Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie worked closely with the CEO of one of Australia’s most high-profile retail companies following a highly publicized incident involving a contracted security guard, a customer with a disability and the customer’s family. For the initial 36 hours of this engagement Duncan worked out of the CEO’s office finalizing strategy and tactical response as well as developing key messages and other public content for distribution by and on behalf of the CEO.

Reputation, Issues and Crisis Management
TW Strategic Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie worked closely with successive CEO’s of a major forestry company in response to high profile incidents of native fauna harm. This work required support to develop strategic and tactical responses to intensive local, state, national and international media coverage of the client and its business. As part of this work Duncan assisted in key stakeholder engagement, development of key messages and content for distribution to media, and preparing the CEO for direct engagement with hostile media.

Media Relations: 
TW Strategic Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie helped develop and execute broad national media engagement supporting a client conducting the receivership of two high profile national retail brands in 2015. In these projects TW Strategic helped develop the client’s high intensity media engagement strategy, including developing content for distribution and distributing various content to National, State and Local media. In addition, Duncan engaged directly with media inquiries from all media sources on behalf of the client

Media Relations:  
TW Strategic recently supported a legal education firm to promote a new product via the media. This included providing recommendations regarding a strategic approach to media engagement and direct engagement with media to facilitate public coverage of this new product.

Media Relations:
TW Strategic Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie worked with a property services company in Victoria to clarify media reporting on the inner-city apartment market – helping to deliver complex information limiting flawed coverage of a “glut” in apartments in inner city Melbourne. This required refining key data points and messages with the client, analyzing appropriate journalist targets for engagement and then engaging directly on the client’s behalf to pitch and deliver key messages and supporting evidence.

Communications Training:
TW Strategic has worked closely with a major Forestry company to organise training for senior management in written and presentation communications, as well as working with individual team members to plan and develop specific written and presentation communications. TW strategic also advised the client on developing core internal and external communications guidelines to effectively leverage the training provided.

Social Media:
TW Strategic services a number of clients, including an international Executive Search firm and an Australian Genetic Research Foundation, by researching, producing and distributing social media content including regular posts and longer form thought leadership blogs. These have resulted in significant increases in online engagement, community development and fundraising.

Speech Writing: 
TW Strategic has recently researched, planned, drafted and finalised major and short form speeches for the Chairman of a major Chemical manufacturer and the new CEO of one of Australia’s largest Agri-food businesses. This work drew on Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie’s extensive experience as a political advisor preparing all forms of short and long form speeches for Senior Ministers and party leaders.


Public Affairs

Government Relations: 
TW Strategic has worked closely with a major Victorian TAFE in Victoria to engage with multiple levels of Government. This has included engaging directly with senior Commonwealth Ministerial private office staff as well as departmental officers regarding future public policy reforms and opportunities for engagement between government and the client.

Government Relations: 
TW Strategic Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie worked closely with a multinational FMCG company in the food and snacking sector assisting to develop and execute strategies to restructure the business and divest itself of partnerships with major stakeholders, including the Victorian Government. This was successfully achieved without any potential penalties being levied against the company and an existing joint venture was successfully transferred and remains operational.

Government Tender Preparation: 
TW Strategic Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie has supported a number of major infrastructure and transport companies to provide strategic analysis of their approach to securing government contracts including the Pakenham Cranbourne Rail Upgrade, the long term metropolitan train system operators contract and the most recent round of Victorian PPP school construction contracts. 

Government Tender Preparation: 
TW Strategic has worked with multiple large Victorian TAFE’s and Training Providers to research, draft and finalise submissions to government and tenders for major government contracts including Commonwealth and State funded training programs such as the SEE Program, Youth PaTH training initiative and the Workforce Training and Innovation Fund. TW Strategic has also developed a proposal for partnership between a client TAFE and the Government of Bangladesh to provide training.

Government Policy Submissions: 
TW Strategic Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie researched, wrote, drafted and finalised preparation of a major submission to the Victorian Training Review in 2015. This document provided a historical overview of sector policy, summary of the issues requiring attention in the review and a set of detailed recommendations for reform.


Campaigns and Project Management

Campaign Design and Management:
TW Strategic Principal Consultant Duncan McGauchie designed and executed a multi-faceted campaign to deliver a major international summit on Developing Northern Australia in 2014. This included identifying and securing speakers, working groups, sponsors, attendees, partnerships and the agenda. The Summit was a major success informing the Commonwealth White Paper on Developing Northern Australia and driving policy reform and investment.

Project Management: 
TW Strategic is currently working with a landholder in regional Victoria to help manage its partnership with a major multinational energy company to asses, design, build and operate a large renewable energy project. This work involves managing all engagement with project partners on behalf of the landholder, establishing ground rules for all parties, facilitating landholder contributions to planning, assessment and community consultation processes, supporting the landholders planning for its own operations over the life of the project and advising the landholder on important related policy and commercial issues potentially impacting the project.
